Colostrum Harvesting

Colostrum is the first milk your body produces - rich in nutrients and antibodies to support your baby in the early days after birth.

Some parents choose to express small amounts of colostrum in the final weeks of pregnancy (usually from around 36–37 weeks, unless advised otherwise), which can then be stored and used after birth if needed.

This can be particularly helpful in certain situations, but many parents also choose to do it simply to feel more prepared and familiar with hand expressing before baby arrives.

A gentle note

Colostrum harvesting is optional and not essential for everyone. Always check with your midwife before starting, especially if you’ve been advised of any pregnancy considerations
